He wants to do more films, but this time he wants to include their children in these, the plan to do more songs and teach their children the key to success, in their marriage hopes not to have children. With the money he has collected over the years of success he wants to help some foundations for the rights of Afro-Colombians, so he hopes to grow younger talented, and follow in their footsteps.

Smith grew up with his parents, Willard and Caroline, in West Philadelphia.

Smith married Sheree Zampino in 1992. They had a son, Willard Christopher Smith III, also known as "Trey", and divorced in 1995. Trey appeared in his father's music video "Just The Two Of Us" in 1998. Smith married Jada Pinkett, actress in 1997. Together they had two children: Jaden Christopher Syre (born 1998), his co-star in The Pursuit of Happyness, and Willow Camille Reign, who appeared as his daughter in "I Am Legend" (2000). Along with his brother, Harry Smith.

Smith and his family reside on Star Island in Miami Beach. Smith donated a lot of money to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He also donated $ 4,600 to the presidential campaign of the current president Barack Obama.
